Even though the Micromax A100 is not in production, both the Micromax A110 and the A116 are on sale in the market right now. Wonder why one would choose the A72 Canvas Viva instead of the Canvas 2 and the Canvas HD that has better features and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

BLU Products ships Studio 5.3 II, rugged Tank 4.5

BLU Products launches rugged Tank 45, dualSIM Studio 53 II

BLU Products is leaving no niche uncovered, it seems. Just a week after the Quattro line surfaced, we’re seeing two more budget smartphones arrive that fill in what few gaps are left. The Tank 4.5 seen above is a rare rugged entry for BLU that’s dust- and water-resistant, yet still reasonably slim for a toughened phone at 0.38 inches — it’s the 4.5-inch qHD screen, dual-core 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera and 4GB of expandable storage that keep the price in check. The Studio 5.3 II (below), meanwhile, is a direct sequel to last year’s Studio that takes on the improved processor and resolution of the Tank 4.5 while throwing in a better 8-megapixel camera. Regardless of the phone, you’ll find Jelly Bean and roaming-friendly dual SIM slots with unlocked HSPA 3G. Both are shipping now to the US for $199, which could be just low enough to catch travelers who want a simple smartphone for that late winter vacation.

Xtreamer teases 5-inch AiKi Android handset: ICS, dual SIM and ‘revolutionary’ pricing (video)

Xtreamer is getting into phones, teases 5inch AiKi Android handset ICS, dual SIM and 'revolutionary' pricing

While the world waits for a certain other phone that includes a 5 reference in its teaser, HTPC, media streamer and NAS builder Xtreamer has revealed its plans to get into the mobile space. A banner on its forum, a sign-up page for more info and quick teaser trailer are all we have to go on, but so far the available details gives the AiKi 5-inch specs that include dual SIM, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, a “powerful” battery, ClockWorkMod based updates, multilingual ROM, root enabled by default and the tagline “why pay more?” Until there’s more details that’s likely to remain an open question, but given Xtreamer’s history, we suspect European users inclined to modding should at least keep an eye out, we’ll let you know when we hear more.

Bill Bellamy and all others in need of such features can check the press release after the break for a few more details, or the gallery below to get a look from a few more angles of this son of the original Galaxy Ace.

Official Froyo update for Samsung Intercept going awry, Sprint investigating; unofficial fix available for now

Samsung’s really struggling to release solid Android firmware updates, as evidenced by the Bell Vibrant situation — and now, this little mess. Sounds like some Intercepts on Sprint are dying after applying the official update to Android 2.2 released a few days ago, prompting Sprint to put out an official statement today:

It has been brought to our attention that some customers may be experiencing issues with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for the Samsung Intercept. Some users have reported their device to be unresponsive after the upgrade is completed. We apologize for any inconvenience while we investigate the issue and get it corrected as quickly as possible. If you experience issues with your device following the upgrade, please contact Sprint Customer Solutions at 1-888-211-4PCS.”

Fortunately, it sounds like there’s an unofficial, unapproved fix floating around that might bring dead Intercepts already in the field back to life, and it merely involves applying another incremental update that’s available for download. Again, this is definitely unofficial — it’s not being offered by Sprint publicly and we wouldn’t recommend doing it unless you’re desperate to bring your piece back to the land of the living without a trip to the Sprint store — but for what it’s worth, it’s out there. Goes to show you why these guys like to roll out updates in small waves, eh?
