LG G Flex Unboxing in India

LG G Flex, the pioneering flexible phone with a curved screen, was officially launched in India yesterday. This is out and out a technological showcase product from LG, with innovations like a flexible display, body and battery brought to the table. It also features all the high end features that one would expect from a flagship device, but is also a phablet with a 6″ screen. Basically, this is the pinnacle of LG’s engineering prowess, which might actually end up setting the precedent for a whole lot of devices in the future. The Indian variant we have here, is priced at a sky high Rs.69,999/- which is unattainable for most. With that price tag, apart from the device itself, what does the G Flex pack in terms of box contents? We unbox the device to find out –
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFASnC7qD6M
As you can see in the video, there is not much to say about the box contents, they are pretty standard for a high end phone, but it is still good to note that it ships with the Quad Beat in-ear headset. Here are the box contents laid out in a single pic –

Notion Ink Adam II Review

Notion Ink Adam II Review
Notion Ink is a name that most of us remember for various reasons. Some of us remember it for the innovative wannabe product, a world’s first Tegra 2 chipset on board with an innovative Pixel Qi dual mode display and a rotating camera, that too way back in 2010 when Android 2.1 was doing the rounds. Some of us remember it for the lengthy delays in production and the overall failure to meet expectations due to sub standard retail hardware and experience. Suffice to say, it was deemed a failure.
But the company is now back with another product, the Notion Ink Adam II which was recently released in India for a starting price of Rs. 16,499. We had unboxed it a while back to find out if the device redeems itself from its predecessor’s failure. We were initially impressed, but now after about a week of usage, is the Notion Ink Adam II really worth our time and money? We find out in our full review.
Unboxing
The Adam II comes with a big box with minimal number of components. A surprising addition was the DIY kick stand made of card board, here are the box contents laid …

Intex Aqua i7 Review

The mid range smartphone market in India is insanely competitive to say the least. We have been seeing tons of companies make affordable phones with some of the specifications that are usually only reserved for the top end phones. But due to the same cut throat competition, we have also been seeing many similar devices, with common attributes like the display and the chipset. In that sense, the current market trend is this – a 5 inch 1080p display and a MediaTek 6589T processor. The Gionee Elife E6, the Micromax Canvas Turbo and of course, the Intex Aqua i7 are all part of this trend, improving upon the 720p screen based phones earlier. But is it really worth the effort and upgrade? We find out in our review and are going to see if the Aqua i7 delivers the usual promise of “more for less”.
Box Contents
Intex Aqua i7
In-ear earphones with mic
Micro USB cable
Travel Charger
Flip Cover that replaces the back
User guide and Warranty card
The box contents are the usual except for the Flip Cover that we increasingly notice in big screen phone boxes these days. Here’s our unboxing video of the same –

Which is the Best Smartphone Camera of 2013? – Vote in our blind test

2013 has been an eventful year for cameras on Smartphones. We have seen oversampling algorithms take advantage of huge sensors, increased pixel sizes subverting the megapixel race, optical image stabilization enabling great low light imaging and general widespread adoption of stacked CMOS sensors, making it one of those years when companies made their camera efforts serious. This also means that the traditional gap between the best and the rest has gotten a lot more closer. So, which is the best smartphone camera of this year? We have brought a number of flagship devices together to find out, in a blind test.
As you can see from the image above, these are the devices that are part of our blind test –
Samsung Galaxy S4
LG G2
HTC One
Apple iPhone 5s
Sony Xperia Z1 – 8 MP Oversampling mode
Nokia Lumia 1020 – 5 MP Oversampling mode
The Blind Test
Ok so this is what we have done. We have taken a total of five photos, with several parameters and lighting conditions in mind. The frames are almost similar between all the models with the only deterrent being the actual field of view of the lens. Some of the phones have a narrower view, while some have a wider …

Whatsapp finally gets a huge update on Windows Phone, now with background agent and proper Emoji!

The saga of Whatsapp on Windows Phone has always been fueled with much hate since the app never really worked well out of the box and was always buggy. Having grown massively, Whatsapp left Windows Phone users to a sub par experience when compared with other platforms. The streaming API was hacked up and meddled with music playback and messages stopped refreshing inside the app occasionally. Annoying customers to the core, the app still has only a 3 star rating on the Windows Phone Store, but a new huge update to the app changes everything, again. Fixing all the problems that the app is known for, the company has provided the much needed huge update and looking at the early review, it seems all the major outstanding issues have been fixed.
Here is a quick list of changes on the new version of whatsapp –
Initiate voice calls from within the app
Background API allows you to play music
Proper Emoji
Fixed notifications for users
Users can now see smileys on the double wide tile
Fast resume (If the app is open and you click on the incoming notification it opens as fast as on Android)
On start-up, it now asks if you want to back up your …

Power VR series 6 mobile GPU introduced at CES

Imagination technologies, the company behind the Power VR range of mobile GPUs, have announced the PowerVR series 6 GPU at the International Consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. The series 6 has not been unveiled entirely, as the demo unit at the company’s booth itself is a FPGA board with limited 1Gbps bandwidth, which is supposedly one tenth of the GPU’s actual performance numbers.
The series 6 GPU, which is still kept under wraps will be having all sorts of new features with respect to the APIs, feature sets  and what not, and certainly a lot of improvement to the performance as well. The PowerVR series 6 GPUs are initially meant to be installed in LG 4k TVs, presumably driving those high resolution displays. The mass manufacturing has been given a go by LG, being Imagination technologies’ first partner for the Series 6 GPU.
Imagination also announced that they are updating their current feature set for the Series 5XT range of mobile GPUs that are almost ubiquitous in the mobile world. The new update will bring all the new APIs that are being released for the series 6 GPUs making it even better than before. Imagination claims that all these new APIs …
