Upcoming Sony smartwatch and tablet teased ahead of IFA

Sony has a habit of hinting at upcoming products through teasers hidden away in event invites. Taking a look at the invitation for its IFA event, it looks like the Japanese company might have a brand new smartwatch and perhaps even a tablet lined up for the event. There’s been a lot of speculation around the event and expected announcements include an updated flagship, a new smart lens and the aforementioned smartwatch.
Featuring rounded corners and a design that seems to lie between the 7-8 inch territory, the device appears to be the rumored Sony Z3 Tablet Compact. There’s not much to go in terms of specifications but given the pool setting and historical precedence, the tablet should be waterproof at a minimum and will likely pack high end specifications.
Next up is the smartwatch. Packing a design that is more like the first generation Galaxy Gear than Sony’s own Smartwatch2, the wearable is not expected to run Android Wear which is definitely a dampner. Sony has long insisted that it would continue using it’s own platform for wearables while also introducing Android Wear based products over time. With just under 10 days left for IFA, we’ll soon find out what Sony and others …

XOLO Q1200 Review

XOLO is a well known player in the Indian smartphone space. With several class leading devices over the last few years, it has established itself as a player that provides quality hardware with well optimized software at a price point that is within the reach of most buyers. The company recently launched the XOLO Q1200 and we take it for a spin. Read on to find out what we think of it. Xolo Q1200 specifications
5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor with Mali 400 MP2 GPU
Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to Android 4.4 (KitKat)
8MP rear camera with Dual LED Flash, Sony Exmor R sensor

3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio
1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, expandable memory with MicroSD
3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG

The XOLO Q1200 is a fairly run of the mill Android device and taking a look at it, the phone seems to lack a unique design perspective. It feels quite solid in the hand though the straight edges might make it appear a bit more chunky than it is. The front of the phone definitely seems to be inspired by the Apple iPhone.

LG G Watch to launch in June for 199 Euros

When Google’s Android Wear project went official, LG was amongst the first to announce its take on wearables with the G Watch. Today in an official announcement, the Korean company said that it plans to launch the G Watch in June at an estimated price point of 199 Euros.
The design of the watch is similar to that of the not very successful Sony Smartwatch 2 but it is expected to have a larger display. The display on the LG G Watch is believed to be a 1.65 inch 280×280 pixel panel. LG has already announced that it’s watch will feature an always on display which is in sharp comparison to most other smartwatches out there.
Additionally, the watch will employ voice recognition to respond to the standard ‘Ok, Google’ command that we’re so used in Google Now. The watch will be both water and dust resistant. The company has already revealed that it will ship in Champagne Gold and Stealth Black variants and it remains to be seen if more colors will be on offer. The LG G Watch goes on sale this June in France at a price point of 199 Euros.

LG Odin chipset entering mass production soon, to skip flagship G3

As competition in the chipset space increases, its been rumored that LG has plans of their own to bring along an ARM based system on chip dubbed Odin. While rumors have been around for a couple of years now, we finally might have something concrete around the specifics of the chipset. Believed to be based on the big.LITTLE configuration that we talked about a while back, the Odin chipset would pair four Cortex A15 cores clocked at 2.2Ghz each with four Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.7Ghz. To be manufactured on the 28nm process, it is believed that TSMC is in charge of manufacturing.
Said chip will however not be making its debut in the LG G3. A critical product for the Korean company, LG will be relying on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 chipset to power the handset. To be available in both quad and octa core configurations, the SoC will pack an ARM Mali T604 or T760 GPU depending on the configuration. The first handset to be powered by Odin is expected to be a low – mid range device later this year. Meanwhile, the LG G3 is shaping up to be a beast of a smartphone with a 2k display, …
