Chill optional: 51 percent of US internet users watch Netflix

HILVERSUM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 03, 2015: Netflix, Inc. is an American provider of on-demand Internet streaming media available fou

Netflix’s robust content library has helped it top nearly 70 million subscribers worldwide. Not surprisingly, the majority of those come from the US, where the streaming service has over 43 million customers alone. And, for the most part, people here seem to be fond of it. According to a survey conducted by research firm RBC Capital Markets, and first reported by Quartz, more than half of US internet users say they’ve used Netflix to watch a movie or TV show in the past 12 months. The study also asked people about what other video offerings they use regularly: YouTube came in a close second, right behind Netflix, followed by Amazon Instant Video, Hulu and HBO Go, respectively.

The ‘tablet’ for your wrist has arrived

Yes, someone actually made a wearable “tablet.” And no, we’re not talking about the Neptune Pine, which is basically an oversized watch that doubles as a phone. This new device, dubbed Rufus Cuff, features a 3.2-inch screen and, since launching as an Indiegogo campaign in 2014, has promised to be more than a smartwatch. Rufus Labs, the company behind it, says its product “ends the era of the watch and ushers in the wrist communicator.” Aside from that ludicrous display size (compared to other wearables designed to be worn on your wrist), it also features a TI Cortex A9 processor, front-facing camera for pictures/video, GPS, WiFi and a 1,175mAh battery. Although you can use an iPhone to take calls with it, thanks to the built-in speaker, dual microphones and Bluetooth support, Rufus Cuff is powered by Android Kit Kat.

AT&T offers DirecTV customers $500 to change phone service

AT&T

Now that AT&T has finalized its acquisition of DirecTV, the carrier isn’t wasting any time trying to bring in new wireless customers. Today, AT&T announced a promotion for people who are already subscribed to the satellite television provider, which includes up to $500 in bill credit. It’s simple: DirecTV customers can get $300 applied to their account for every phone line switched over to AT&T, though each requires a device purchased through Next, the company’s monthly installment plan. To make the deal more enticing, AT&T’s also offering $200 for “eligible” smartphone trade-ins — altogether, this could end up saving users a few hundred dollars if they decide to jump ship. “But what about me? I have U-Verse,” you may be asking… There’s nothing to be upset about, since these credits are available to you as well.

Adidas finally launches its shoe-customizing app in the US

It was about six months ago that Adidas introduced the Photo Print ZX Flux, a line of sneakers which can be easily customized by way of a mobile application. But while shoe lovers in Europe have had the chance to make their own ZX Flux since August, the same couldn’t be said about people here in the US. Starting today, however, those of you Stateside will now have the opportunity to create a pair for yourself, using the same iOS and Android apps that European folks have had access to for months. It’s quite simple, really. Say you have an image of a delicious burger on your smartphone, such as the one above, then you upload it to the application, tweak it slightly if you need to and, just like that, you can have a pair on the way to your door. Adidas is pricing the customizable sneakers at $110 — orders are expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete. %Gallery-slideshow193878%

Galaxy Note 4 owners get three months free of OnLive gaming

Ahead of the Galaxy Note 4’s release in the US tomorrow, Samsung has a last-minute incentive for potential buyers as well as those who have already pre-ordered. The company just announced a new partnership deal with OnLive, which gives owners of its fresh, big-screen handset three months of free gaming through the streaming platform. Huawei makes an investment in its international image

Huawei Technologies Co.

Outside of its home grounds, Huawei hasn’t had the easiest of times making a dent in markets such as the US and Europe. But that’s not to say the company hasn’t been been trying. Just last year, the Chinese communications giant outlined a plan to regain its share of the European smartphone market, with the focus being to build premium handsets and spend more money on research and development. Now, based on that foundation, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei intends to expand his company’s presence in Europe by investing even more and boosting hires in the region.
