OPPO N3 will come in two body construction options

Despite being a ‘Chinese manufacturer’, costs of OPPO’s phones often are in line with those from other brands. This isn’t very apparent on high-end devices, but it certainly shows on mid-range and entry-level devices. However, many fail to realize that OPPO employs a much better build than your everyday Chinese import, which was something we also realized during the OPPO Find 7 review.
In its pursuit of delivering high-quality phones, OPPO will be releasing the N3 next month. We’ve talked about the device before, when we learnt that it’d feature what some call an ‘aircraft grade’ material for the chassis. However, it has now come to fore that the N3 will come in not one, but two body construction options!
The first, as told earlier, will be Aluminium Lithium Alloy, which’ll make the phone decently durable and extremely lightweight. On the other hand is Stainless Steel, which although won’t be as light as the former, but will still give the device the much needed-durability.
Prices of both versions should be the same, but it should be noted that there’s nothing yet from OPPO on that regard. The launch is due on the 29th next month, so we’ve about a month of waiting to …

China’s Baidu announces the Eye, a Google Glass rival

Baidu is a search services giant from China, and has been operating on the hardware scene since the past few years. It is but natural for people to compare it to Google, but if that isn’t the case for you yet, it might change soon.
The newest product from the Baidu stable — the Baidu Eye — is a direct rival to the Google Glass. Google services and products in China are hardly accessible, unless you know how to leap over the Great Wall of China, and the Great Firewall of China. That’s exactly what Baidu will hope to cash in on.
The USP of this device is the ability to recognize voice commands and objects that fall in the periphery of this device’s photo sensor. Unlike the Google Glass, though, it doesn’t have a module that protrudes in front of your eye. Rather, it conveniently sits on the side of your head.
With Google gradually phasing the rollout of its beta or ‘Explorer Edition’ Google Glass, Baidu will hope to put the device in the market to get a bit of a heads up on the American company.

Xolo Q700s Plus with 1.3GHz quad-core CPU, Android 4.4 launched for Rs. 8499

Besides launching the octa-core Play 8X-1000, Xolo today also unveiled the Q700s Plus. Unlike the 8X-1000, the Q700s Plus is a bit skewed towards the more budget-centric section of the market.
That is apparent when you look at the specs sheet of the Q700s Plus. It comes with with very popular MT6582M CPU from Taiwan’s MediaTek that operates at 1.3GHz through its four Cortex A7 cores. There’s also 1GB of RAM that has almost become the standard for entry-level phones in the country.
Specifications
4.5-inch 854 x 480p display
1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M CPU
1GB RAM
8GB expandable ROM
8 mega-pixel rear camera
VGA front camera
Dual SIM
1800mAh battery
Android v4.4 KitKat
What is also good to see is that domestic and Chinese makers offering budget phones are finally making the much needed shift to 8GB on-board storage from a paltry 4GB. As smartphones get feature rich each day, large storage capacities come to be a need more than luxury.
Coming back to the Q700s Plus, the device is priced at 8,499 INR or $140.

OPPO headed to Australian shores

Keen to make a mark on the world map, Chinese phone makers are giving it their all to expand in to as many markets as possible. Xiaomi, and now OPPO are showing the very intent to make their presence felt.
While OPPO is already active in a handful out markets outside of China including the EU and India, Australian shores are yet to be conquered by the prolific phone maker from the far east. According to Mac World, OPPO will be marking their foray in Australia as early as next month.
The event invite reportedly reads: Mark your diaries to be among the first to hear all the news from one of the leading mobile phone brands across APAC as they begin their Australian journey, and get hands on with the products for the first time locally.
OPPO is clearly looking to grab a share in the Australian market before any of its counterparts head there. It isn’t yet clear what smartphones OPPO will launch in Australia straight away, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see them go all-guns blazing with the top-tier OPPO Find 7 that we also reviewed.

Beast from the East: IUNI U3 to launch 26th August!

IUNI is far from a household name in countries other than China, but the wily maker has been making a lot of noise since late last year.
The company launched the IUNI U2 earlier this year amidst huge fanfare. Why the anticipation for a virtually unknown maker, you wonder? Well, that’s because the U2 promised to be an HTC M8 killer with the VFM proposition it brought on board.
Now, the Gionee spin-off has announced that it would be launching its next flagship, the U3, later this month on the 26th. There’s no confirmation yet, but outlets in IUNI’s home country are reporting that the U3 would come with the now-standard (for flagships) 5.5-inch 1440p display (something we’ve seen on the LG G3 and the OPPO Find 7) and possibly even dual 4G standby, as their ‘4 x 2’ flyer leaks suggest.
Price-wise, IUNI will go straight for the most obvious competitor from China… the Xiaomi Mi 4. This means that the 2K beast could be priced as less as 1999 CNY or $320, which translates to some hardcore VFM.
We shall know in a couple of weeks!

Leaked: Mini variant of the Lenovo K920 Vibe Z2 Pro

Lenovo’s K920, a Quad HD smartphone with flagship-level specs, went official about two months back after a prolonged stint with the rumour mills. According to reports, the Chinese manufacturer might be working on another variant of this powerhouse of a phone.
It is being said that Lenovo are working on a mini version of the device, which will possibly be called ‘K920 Vibe Z2 Pro Mini’. Of course, this is only speculation, and there’s no word on this from Lenovo yet.
What is funny though, is the fact that this rumoured mini version of the phone will come with a massive 5.5-inch display, which is far from any ‘mini’ phone we’ve seen in the past. Specifications-wise the device will have a set nearly identical to the elder brother, in the Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage.
Screen resolution is expected to go down to 1920 x 1080p from the QHD resolution of the Vibe Z2 Pro, which does make sense if Lenovo want to sell it for cheaper. Speaking of price, the Vibe Z2 Pro mini is being touted as a sub $350 phone, so don’t be surprised if you see this launch for a price tag …

You can now avail the Jolla smartphone in Kazakhstan

Jolla’s one and only smartphone, the ‘Jolla’ is now available in Kazakhstan.
Mobile Invest, a local firm, as teamed up with the Finland based OEM to offer the Jolla smartphone in the country. While it may not have the most cutting edge features, the Jolla smartphone definitely gets some points when it comes to OS usability. It comes with the in-house developed Sailfish OS, and is the only smartphone in the world that ships with it.
Specifications
4.5-inch 960 x 540 pixel display
1.4GHz dual-core CPU
1GB RAM
16GB on-board ROM, expandable
8 mega-pixel rear camera
2 mega-pixel front camera
2100mAh battery
Saifish OS
While there’s no word on pricing of the device in Kazakhstan, it believed that it’ll cost about 400 Euros. This means that the Jolla smartphone clearly won’t be the most affordable dual-core smartphone!
We spent some time with the device recently, have a look here. In related news, the Jolla smartphone was slated for an Indian release, which means the device will be available via Snapdeal in the coming months.
