Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet battery test

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is one of the hottest new pieces of Android hardware – it’s hard to believe how thin and light it is until you hold it in your hand. At 6.4mm thick, there’s not much room so the tablet uses a 6,000mAh battery, the same capacity as the previous model.

Verizon iPhone 5S, 5C release date through restrictions

Tomorrow is the start of a new month and for some September looks set to be the best month of the year so far. This is because of two events that will see a lavishing of new smartphones heading to the market at a later date. First we have IFA 2013, which should offer details on the Galaxy Note 3, the Xperia Z1 amongst others.

Just a few days later is when iOS fans can get excited as September 10 is expected to be when Apple will hold their iPhone event. We already know they will show off a new iPhone (or two) along with iOS 7 as well, but apart from that we are still very much in the dark.

However, 9to5 Mac may have stumbled across the possible Verizon iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C (if it exists) release date through vacation restrictions. This is because Verizon has now put a restriction on employee vacations on dates September 18-22.

Looking at those dates it does seem very plausible because it would keep with what we have seen in the past. What we mean by this is the fact that a new iPhone is usually released to the public around a week and a half following its unveil.

Having said that, this would make it a day sooner than when the fall starts, which is when Tim Cook said we should not expect any new products – what’s one day right?

Seeing Verizon restrict vacation time during a huge launch is nothing new because we have seen this happen time and again, and AT&T and T-Mobile are also said to be doing the same thing to their employees.

When do you think we are likely to see the new iPhone, and what do you expect from Apple this year?

Even though Apple has not giving any clues as what to expect from the 2013 iPhone event – nothing changes- we have already seen several convincing images appear, such as an iPhone 5S scratch test and new color, along with a iPhone 5C accelerated lifetime test and white and blue combination.

We knew that Gamescom 2013 was going to be all about the Sony PS4 and the Xbox One, and if you are a gaming fan then you were treated to some intriguing news, which we will not go into because we are not a gaming website. You may wonder why we would be talking about such an event in the first place, and if we were to say SmartGlass then we are sure you will understand.

Some of the new games coming to the next-gen Xbox console will offer smartphone and tablet support, and we have come across 4 Xbox One launch games with mobile integration, which as you may well know will help to give the user a far greater experience.

Tom Clancy’s The Division with SmartGlass support will allow you to join in on a game and assist squads to help change the outcome of a game. This title will not be released until late 2014.

With the recent release of Plants vs. Zombies 2 on iOS it’s good to hear that there will be an Xbox One version called Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare and will take full advantage of smartphone integration. When playing in Boss Mode you will be able to use SmartGlass in order to help your teammate.

Fable Legends has a unique SamrtGlass feature where it will allow you to take control of the villain via your smartphone or tablet.

Using a mobile device with Dead Rising 3 will allow you to call in air strikes, select drone support or even let of flares on a wide area to distract the zombies.

These are just 4 Xbox One games that allows for mobile integration, but there are many more.

Some people may say it is silly to look for new iPad mini cases when a new version is expected in the next few months. However, you have to remember that most people who own the current version will not bother owning one, or if they do, they might wait a few months after the iPad mini 2 release, as they know the teething issues with iOS 7 would have been ironed out.

This means there are still those of you out there looking to get new iPad mini cases, and we thought we would give a few details on a choice of 2 iPad mini cases, which we think you might like, and both for a similar price.

First up we have the iPad Mini Softgrip Case, which has been designed to help protect your small Apple tablet, as well as feeling comfortable to hold at the same time. This is all thanks to the 2-inch strap built to the rear of the case, as you can just strap your hand to it and make it feel as though it is an extension of the palm of your hand.

The strap is attached to a device that allows the case to be swiveled 360 degrees, and can be locked into place in landscape or portrait. However, if you do not feel like using this then you can detach it from the rear of the case.

As for the case itself, this is made from Polycarbonate, which is tough enough to protect your iPad mini from bumps and scraps, but nothing too major, such as a drop from a height. The price for this case was $34.95, but as of writing this, the website is selling it for just $27.95.

Next up we have the Avantree KB-Mini, which is an iPad mini case made from PU leather, and also doubles as a keyboard. This means that you can use the case to protect your small Apple tablet, and then get productive when you need to make use of the built-in keyboard.

You will connect to the keyboard via Bluetooth, although if you do not need to use this accessory most of the time then it can be detached from the case. There’s also a built-in stand, which is a must when it comes to doing some typing. The price for this case is $39.99, and can be purchased here.

If you are not happy with these 2 iPad mini cases, then maybe you should consider some of these instead.

Just a few weeks ago the only new flagship handset to get the mini treatment was the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, but it was no surprise the HTC One mini followed shortly after that. These two will be in a close battle, just like their larger siblings, but there’s yet more competition on the way in the form of the Motorola Droid Mini.

Before we see how all three compare, we thought we’d remind you that the HTC One Mini and the Galaxy S4 Mini are both available on multiple US carriers, but not Verizon. This is a different story for the Motorola Droid Mini, as this will only be available on Big Red, so you may think this is a little strange to compare these handset? Having said that, you have to consider they may release on other carriers, and also the fact of their international releases.

Motorola Droid Mini vs HTC One Mini

Motorola Droid Mini vs. HTC One Mini – Let’s take a look at how these two handset compare first, and to see which has the best to offer. The main features for the Droid Mini include a 4.3-inch display of the Super AMOLED variety, which gives you a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of 342PPI. Then there is the processor, which is a 1.7GHz two dual-core Qualcomm 8960 CPU’s, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Compare this to the HTC One Mini and its 4.3-inch, S-LCD2 display, it has the same screen resolution and PPI. Its processor is the dual-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, but just 1GB of RAM and the same amount of storage at 16GB.

The Droid Mini is to come with Android 4.2, whereas the HTC One mini will be running Android 4.2.2, but both will have their own custom UI. The HTC is a little lighter at 122g compared to Motorola’s mini handset at 140g.

The Verizon Droid Mini has a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera and the HTC One mini a 4-megapixel sensor, although this does utilize the new Ultrapixel technology. Overall the new Motorola Droid Mini does seem the better of the two.

Droid HD vs. Motorola Droid Mini vs HTC One Mini

Motorola Droid Mini vs. Galaxy S4 Mini – Now we know what the main features of the Droid Mini are, so we thought we would recap some of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini features, and then you’ll be able to make your assumption as to which of the two are the best.

The Galaxy S4 Mini comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 540 x 960 resolution and 256PPI. There is a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage and weighs just 106g. There’s also an 8-megapixel camera and will come with Android Jelly bean 4.2.2.

Overall we’d have to say that the Droid Mini from Motorola is still the winner here, but what do you think?

Optimus G Pro for Verizon imminent release

The Optimus G Pro US exclusivity that AT&T has been enjoying could shortly be over if the correct assumption has been made in regards to a recent FCC filing, as it could pave the way for the imminent release of the Optimus G Pro for Verizon.

While we cannot be certain if the filing is for the above-mentioned handset, it’s highly likely that it is. We say this because the filing is for the LG VS980, and shows that it’s a smartphone headed for Big Red, and we assume they only have one LG handset due for release.

The imminent Optimus G Pro for Verizon release possibility is an exciting one for those of you in North America, because if we are to believe the filing, then there will soon be two options for you to get your hands on the Optimus G Pro.

Lack of Optimus G Pro UK release – This new rumor just adds salt in the wounds for people in the UK, who have been waiting anxiously to get their hands on the LG handset, and with no release date in sight for UK residents, you have to wonder what is taking so long, especially when you consider it’s been available in South Korea since February?

What we are concerned with is the fact that while the UK has yet to see the Optimus G Pro, LG is now preparing for the LG G2 release, which was formerly known as the Optimus G2, which we reported on a little earlier.

Going back to the US version; we have to wonder why the Optimus G Pro was not made available on all four major US carriers? Having said that, AT&T presumably pays a premium to keep the exclusivity, which is a shame, although it’s not the first and will not be the last time such a practice has happened.
