Nokia 1661

Providing a similar feature set to the Nokia 1209, Nokia’s 1661 improves on its baby brother with a better quality display, a much thinner design and an FM radio. However, the smaller form factor comes at the cost of keypad size.

The Nokia 1661 mobile phone is much thinner than the Nokia 1209, so it slides easily into a pocket. At first glance, it’s easy to mistake the Nokia 1661 for a more expensive mobile phone — the glossy black front fascia surrounding the display and keypad certainly looks the part, and the silver edging on the navigational pad is a nice touch. The red edging and grey back cover are bland, though, and the cover does creak slightly when pressed in certain areas, which raises some questions about its build quality. At this price, however, it’s not a huge issue.

Unfortunately, the smaller size of the Nokia 1661 has resulted in a smaller keypad, which has thin and flat keys. The keys are separated by raised lines, but it feels a little cramped when composing text messages. Also hindering the use of this phone is the inclusion of a four-way navigational pad instead of the more common five-way version. This means the left selection key is used to choose items in the menu, so the controls take some time to grasp.

The Nokia 1661’s display is larger and has a higher resolution than the Nokia 1209’s, so it’s easier to use. The screen still possesses poor viewing angles and can be hard to see in sunlight, but it isn’t narrow and therefore displays more lines of text. The increased screen size also means a standard grid layout can be used for the main menu, and a simple list format for most of the submenus.

The features of the Nokia 1661 are fairly basic, with the standout feature being the FM radio. It also offers SMS messaging with T9 predictive text input (but no e-mail or MMS capabilities), a basic phonebook, a call register, and a few handy PIM functions such as an alarm clock, calculator, converter, spreadsheet, reminders, countdown timer, calendar and stopwatch. The flashlight at the top of the handset — activated by holding up on the directional pad — and the polyphonic ring tone composer are nice inclusions.

Like the Nokia 1209, the Nokia 1661’s call quality is solid but not outstanding. Volume could have been a little louder, and it is difficult to hear if there is any background noise. Thankfully, our callers didn’t complain about the outgoing sound, suggesting the microphone is of good quality. A downside is the lack of external volume controls, though the volume is easily adjusted using the navigational pad.Latest Nokia Phones Nokia Mobile Phones – Read reviews and latest features of Nokia Mobile Phone. Nokia 1006

Nokia has announced that, for this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, it plans to include the showcasing of a wide portfolio of mobile devices, among which the coveted Nokia N97 mobile computer, along with the award-winning Nokia E71 and a series of new products that are meant for the North American market.
The stylish, functional and impressive converged Nokia N97 mobile computer is stated to also make its debut on the US market at CES 2009. Other devices announced for demonstration at the show include the Nokia 1006, Nokia 7510 and Nokia E63, also set for release on the market in North America.
Nokia 1006 is the latest CDMA device offered for AWS carriers and is reported to have been developed in the company’s San Diego product creation center. It features an ergonomic design and offers convenience while on the go. It comes with a large, bright color display, voice memo, speakerphone, as well as a phonebook capable of holding 500 entries. The new curved sleek device will be made available in blue and silver.
“Nokia continues to connect more people around the world than any other mobile device manufacturer on the planet. More importantly, we continue to raise the bar with compelling mobile experiences,” said Mark Louison, president, North America, Nokia Inc. “This week at CES, Nokia is demonstrating our leadership by again setting the industry benchmark – with a wide range of devices that are easy-to-use, with fun and collaborative services that consumers demand, like music, gaming, maps and media. It’s an exciting time in our industry and we look forward to bringing more of these experiences to life in North America this year.”
The company announced that, at CES, it would also showcase a series of new technology advancements meant to enhance the user experience as well as to help consumers make environmentally-intelligent choices. The demonstrations include the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) protocol, Easy Meet, a mobile communication and collaboration system allowing web conferences to be held from anywhere at any given moment. As a means to show its commitment for environmentally-friendly practices, Nokia has played the role of the worldwide sponsor of “Wild Ocean,” an underwater movie that shows how people can protect the environment.

“Nokia continues to be at the forefront of driving ‘green thinking’ and helping consumers make environmentally intelligent choices. We strive to educate consumers on options for recycling their old mobile phones, and at CES 2009 we will demonstrate the new Nokia Carbon Calculator – a mobile application that encourages users of devices, such as the new Nokia 6650 with AT&T, to offset the carbon footprint of their travels,” said David Conrad, head of Environment, Nokia North America.
“In addition to our green initiatives, education is also playing an important role, and our sponsorship of the film Wild Ocean is just another way in which we hope to educate the world that if we each do our part, we as a community can make a difference, making the planet a cleaner, greener and better place to live,” Conrad also added.
