Verizon iPhone 5S, 5C release date through restrictions

Tomorrow is the start of a new month and for some September looks set to be the best month of the year so far. This is because of two events that will see a lavishing of new smartphones heading to the market at a later date. First we have IFA 2013, which should offer details on the Galaxy Note 3, the Xperia Z1 amongst others.

Just a few days later is when iOS fans can get excited as September 10 is expected to be when Apple will hold their iPhone event. We already know they will show off a new iPhone (or two) along with iOS 7 as well, but apart from that we are still very much in the dark.

However, 9to5 Mac may have stumbled across the possible Verizon iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C (if it exists) release date through vacation restrictions. This is because Verizon has now put a restriction on employee vacations on dates September 18-22.

Looking at those dates it does seem very plausible because it would keep with what we have seen in the past. What we mean by this is the fact that a new iPhone is usually released to the public around a week and a half following its unveil.

Having said that, this would make it a day sooner than when the fall starts, which is when Tim Cook said we should not expect any new products – what’s one day right?

Seeing Verizon restrict vacation time during a huge launch is nothing new because we have seen this happen time and again, and AT&T and T-Mobile are also said to be doing the same thing to their employees.

When do you think we are likely to see the new iPhone, and what do you expect from Apple this year?

Even though Apple has not giving any clues as what to expect from the 2013 iPhone event – nothing changes- we have already seen several convincing images appear, such as an iPhone 5S scratch test and new color, along with a iPhone 5C accelerated lifetime test and white and blue combination.

Nexus 4 price drops by $100 to $199 for 8GB, $249 for 16GB

The cheapest unlocked stock Android phone you could buy just got even cheaper: Google has dropped the price of the Nexus 4 8GB to $199 from the original price of $299, and the 16GB model to $249 from $349. It’s fast approaching the anniversary date of the latest Google phone, so the timing is about right for the discount. However, we do wonder if this means a replacement is nigh. After all, Google has yet to introduce the next Nexus successor, and we certainly don’t think the Moto X is all the Mountain View company has to offer. Until then, the Nexus 4 is pretty much the best deal for stock Android lovers who wish to be untied to a carrier. So if you feel like snatching one up now, you had best hit the source link before, you know, it sells out again.

Many Android device enthusiasts are avidly waiting for the Google Nexus 5 smartphone to be announced. This device is likely to be revealed within the next month or so, and there has been wild speculation about specs and features. One thing we do know is that it won’t have the specs of this view of the Nexus 5 that we’re sharing with you today, as some are unlikely to say the least.

We occasionally like to show concept designs of upcoming products, and we’ve already seen plenty of other takes on the upcoming Nexus 5. Although these concepts won’t come to fruition, they do offer us an intriguing look at just what a device could look like. The concept we are showing you today has a sizeable display, made clearer because the image shows this envisioning lined up next to an iPhone 5.

The design of this Nexus 5 imagining features a unibody aluminum shell to give it a premium look and feel. The designer also included some specs with this concept design, including some that are implausible, although most are not quite as crazy as some we’ve seen provided for previous renders of the Nexus 5.

This Google Nexus 5 comes from a DeviantArt member and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and has an IPS display with superior resolution. It also has 4GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, Corning Gorilla Glass for the front, and a 3000 mAh battery.

Moving back to the real Nexus 5 there is still speculation over who is manufacturing the device and we’ve heard all sorts of names thrown into the ring. All the signs at the moment suggest it’s either LG or Motorola but nothing has yet been confirmed. The same applies to specs, but the most recent leaks suggest a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 5.2-inch display, 10-megapixel rear camera, and of course Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

We have an idea that we could see plenty more Nexus 5 concept design before the genuine article is finally released, but in the meantime we’d like your thoughts on this design idea. Would you like the real Nexus 5 to look similar to this? Tell us what specs you anticipate for the Google Nexus 5 when it is unveiled, by sending your comments.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Gear ship dates evaluated

We are not long away now from the official unveiling of the next flagship smartphone from South Korean manufacturer Samsung, and the special Unpacked 2 event is expected to bring more goodies to the table as well. Now the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear ship dates are being evaluated along with talk of no 16GB model.

In a few weeks time on September 4th Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 3 and as we heard previously a smartwatch going under the name of Galaxy Gear is also expected to be showcased.

Now according to SamMobile who has a good track record with all things linked to Samsung have suggested that the Galaxy Note 3 will begin shipping the same month as its unveiling, which has also been heard before.

Week 36 of this year is being put forward for the time when the Galaxy Note 3 will begin arriving in stores, while the smartwatch is being tipped to arrive a few weeks later in October. Depending on the region the wearable device may see a delay of a week or two according to sources.

There are also claims that there will be no 16GB version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and could be down to all the fuss that was made when the Galaxy S4 was released and the amount of usable storage that was available on the 16GB version.

We have recently been looking at the different versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with regards to the processors being used inside them, with some potential customers not happy with the version their region will be getting.

Nexus 7 factory image and binaries now available from Google

Nexus 7 factory image and binaries now available from Google

Wanna mod that shiny new Nexus 7? Today’s your lucky day. Google just posted the factory image and binaries for its second generation 7-inch tablet — also known by the product name “razor” and device name “flo”. The factory image lets you restore your new Nexus 7 to the exact software it shipped with in case you grow tired of that custom ROM you cooked up using the binaries (natch). Speaking of which, the packages include drivers for audio and sensors from ASUS, NFC from Broadcom plus graphics and everything-but-the-kitchen-sink from Qualcomm. This comes mere hours after some open source drama surrounding the binaries (which now appears to be resolved) and with plenty of time to spare for UK customers. Follow the source links below and have fun hacking this weekend.

Some people may say it is silly to look for new iPad mini cases when a new version is expected in the next few months. However, you have to remember that most people who own the current version will not bother owning one, or if they do, they might wait a few months after the iPad mini 2 release, as they know the teething issues with iOS 7 would have been ironed out.

This means there are still those of you out there looking to get new iPad mini cases, and we thought we would give a few details on a choice of 2 iPad mini cases, which we think you might like, and both for a similar price.

First up we have the iPad Mini Softgrip Case, which has been designed to help protect your small Apple tablet, as well as feeling comfortable to hold at the same time. This is all thanks to the 2-inch strap built to the rear of the case, as you can just strap your hand to it and make it feel as though it is an extension of the palm of your hand.

2 iPad mini cases for a similar price 2

The strap is attached to a device that allows the case to be swiveled 360 degrees, and can be locked into place in landscape or portrait. However, if you do not feel like using this then you can detach it from the rear of the case.

As for the case itself, this is made from Polycarbonate, which is tough enough to protect your iPad mini from bumps and scraps, but nothing too major, such as a drop from a height. The price for this case was $34.95, but as of writing this, the website is selling it for just $27.95.

Next up we have the Avantree KB-Mini, which is an iPad mini case made from PU leather, and also doubles as a keyboard. This means that you can use the case to protect your small Apple tablet, and then get productive when you need to make use of the built-in keyboard.

You will connect to the keyboard via Bluetooth, although if you do not need to use this accessory most of the time then it can be detached from the case. There’s also a built-in stand, which is a must when it comes to doing some typing. The price for this case is $39.99, and can be purchased here.

If you are not happy with these 2 iPad mini cases, then maybe you should consider some of these instead.

If you are looking for a SnapChat alternative that is only available on Android and iOS, look no further than Secret Pictures for BBM. When SnapChat was released BlackBerry owners were rather annoyed they did not get a piece of the pie, this is where developers ShaoSoft come to the rescue.

Secret Pictures for BBM is very similar to SnapChat for Android and iOS users, other than security being a lot better on the BlackBerry version.

The app allows users to choose a picture and they can set how long the picture can be viewed for then select the person to send it to – the app does the rest! Once they start to view the picture a timer starts counting down once the time is up the picture is permanently deleted from their device.

The 767 KB Secret Pictures for BBM app was released today and allows users to send pictures, which are all encrypted. This means that no one can view them unless they have Secret Pictures, for further security screen shots are also disabled.

Some of the main features within this app includes the sending of pictures securely that will not be saved, the pictures will self-destruct if they are sent to others that it was not intended for, users can add captions to the photos. There is also the pinch and zoom when viewing plus app owners can take a picture direct using their devices camera within the app.

When you install the Secret Pictures for BBM (Costs £1.50) you will be happy to know that no data will be sent through the developer’s servers, good to know you have security.

Will you be using the Secret Pictures for BBM on your BlackBerry?

Google debuts new Zagat app for Android and iOS, redesigned website

Sure, Mountain View slowly infused Maps with Zagat content after acquiring the brand, but now it’s revamped the outfit’s mobile apps on Android and iOS, along with its website, to boot. As you’d expect, users can wield the apps and website to find venues with searches and map-based browsing, and catch up on news and videos from the service’s editors. In this fresh incarnation, Google’s lifted a registration requirement that was previously necessary to peruse reviews online. Schmidt and Co.’s redesigned experience only covers restaurants and nightlife in nine cities, but will include hotels, shopping and other points of interest in a total of 50 US cities over the coming months. In the meantime, Zagat promises its existing ratings and reviews for spots in those markets will soon be available on the web.
