Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices announced

Sometime back, all of us heard about the alliance of Nokia and Microsoft. Today Nokia and Microsoft has launched and announced there first application dedicated to mobile productivity. This one is named as Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices

his new unified communications client connects directly with a company’s communications systems to streamline mobile collaboration. Owners of a number of Symbian based Nokia Eseries smartphones can download the English version today from Nokia’s Ovi Store, the easiest place to get content on their Nokia device.

“Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world,” says Kirt Debique, General Manager at Microsoft. “With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision.”
Communicator Mobile enables people to see their colleagues’ availability, and click to communicate with them using the best method, from IM to email, text to phone call. The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly into the devices’ contacts application, enabling people to update their own presence, start and join instant messaging sessions, and begin calls directly from the contact card.
“This application really provides a much more efficient way to work with others as you can see if someone is busy or available, and the best way to start a conversation with them,” says Ukko Lappalainen, Vice President at Nokia. “It also meets all of the requirements for enterprise: cost effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable.”
The launch is the first product from the alliance – announced last August – which was the first time either company had embarked on an agreement of this scope and nature. Since then, the two companies have been collaborating on the design and development of new solutions, as well as embarking on joint marketing efforts around others they already share.
“As part of our push to constantly enhance our unified communications proposition, we are keen to extend the collaborative benefits of Microsoft Communicator Mobile to Nokia devices,” says Scott Petty, Director at Vodafone Group Business Services. “Communicator Mobile offers great potential for our large corporate customer base who have already deployed Communicator for desktop and now are looking to extend that existing infrastructure to mobile.”
“We trial all potential offerings ourselves and have been very happy with the internal response and productivity increase we have experienced using Microsoft Communicator Mobile,” says Roger Wüthrich-Hasenböhler, Executive Vice President at Swisscom / Webcall. “Having these two companies work together is really helping us serve the needs of our customers.”
This new application, available initially for Nokia E72 and Nokia E52, adds to the work Nokia is already doing in optimizing direct access to email and other personal information with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. The companies plan to deliver Communicator Mobile for Nokia pre-installed on select Nokia smartphones in the future and plan to support additional devices, including the recently announced Nokia E5.

The blackberry smartphone is still the first choice for the business professional user, giving exclusive access to a wide variety of blackberry business applications and utilities to help manage and organise your day. In the business users eyes, this is still rates high as the best blackberry smartphone. However there is a choice of other smartphones available in the market today. Here a list of the best smartphones that’s proving very popular with not just the business user, but also the home user too.

Motorola Droid

Motorola Droid

Motorola Droid

A superb 3.7 inch display smartphone. Also this phone is said to be challenging the iPho ne in many ways with its high speed mobile browsing, multitasking with applications, google search by voice and 5MP cameras with DVD quality video. The Motorola Droid phone is a truly excellent choice which compares to the iPhone.

Google Nexus One

A lot of hype surrounds the Nexus One smart phone with the Android operating system, however the Nexus One is still a cool mobile phone. The thin and light design make it a perfect choice together with its 3.7 inch display. Pre-orders are being taken from Vodafone for Google’s Nexus One smartphone. The Nexus One smartphone will be free on a £35-per-month contract. Vodafone said on Monday that it will start selling the handset on 30 April. It will arrive almost four months after Google announced the Nexus One at the start of January.

BlackBerry Bold 9700

The Blackberry 9700 mobile is an optimized version of the famous Blackberry Bold 9000. The Blackberry 9700 is smaller and lighter but none of the latter features are sacrificed. Other features that you might enjoy are its media player, 3.15MP camera, GPS support, Blackberry maps, 256MB storage and 256 MB RAM, Touch-sensitive optical trackpad, and of course, games!

Palm Pre

Running on the fantastic webOS platform, the Palm Pre is great for multitasking applications. Easily customize your phone by choosing from thousands of popular apps, including Facebook,Yelp, AP Mobile and The New York Times. Also includes fun 3D games!

BlackBerry Tour

Good support for high speed 3G networks that can be used in many countries other than the UK. One issue here is the lack of wi-Fi support, otherwise good smartphone for e-mail, browsing etc on the attractive display.

HTC Hero (G2 Touch)

The HTC Hero, advertised as the HTC Hero Graphite by Orange and G2 Touch by T-Mobile is the most powerful Google OS phone to date. The HTC Hero smartphone can be a little fiddly taking pictures with the trackball, however this is a tiny drawback and is totally outweighed by the excellent multimedia benefits and business tools available.

HTC Touch Pro2

Widely used as a business phone providing all the features you would expect. Running on Windows Mobile OS the HTC Touch Pro2 presents business calling features, good display etc. However lacks extras for the home user, solely good for the business user.

HTC Droid Eris

Running on the Android operating system. the HTC Droid Eris phone can be personalised for different situations. Work, home, weekends whatever you choose you can customise for every event in your life. Great for Facebook, Google Talk, Flicker and Twitter with a HTC Peep. Also lots of application available on the Android market.

Apple iPhone 3GS

The fastest iPhone to date, with powerful camera and video recording functions. Excellent iPhone browser functionality and a great selection of iPhone apps. The iPhone 3GS smartphone is very popular.

iPhone 3G

Coming in at half the price of the iPhone 3GS this is a very popular phone when it comes down to cost. The touch screen is to die for and it has built-in GPS too including many iPhone 3G apps!

Nokia 6120

At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be anything very remarkable about Nokia’s 6120 Classic. It’s a fairly nondescript-looking candybar phone turned out in shiny black plastic offset with metallic trim. It looks like one of the mid-range workhorses that Nokia has always excelled at – solid, reliable, not terribly exciting but still capable of selling in huge quantities. But look just a little closer and this understated gem might just be one of the best phones the company has produced in ages – a Symbian smartphone for the masses, with tons of mobile know-how packed into its diminutive dimensions, and delivered at a sensible price. Little effort appears to have been spent on creating a fashion icon handset, though it’s available in a choice of black, pearl white, pink and sand gold colourings. The keypad feels a touch plasticky, while the navigation-pad looks functional at best. Functional, however, is the key here – although the 6120 Classic seems to do everything it can to play down its abilities, it can certainly perform where it counts.

The 31 x 41mm screen is beautifully bright and clear, and carries 16 million colours – much more than the human eye can detect, but which reveals a beautifully smooth transition when watching video. It’s a smartphone that runs on the Symbian S60 operating system, familiar from Nokia’s more high-end N-series and E-series smartphones, and it offers plenty of scope for adding your own applications. This is a go-anywhere phone. As well as quad-band GSM connections, it also offers an HSDPA 3G connection. HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is the latest, fastest variety of 3G and can offer data connections to the internet that are several times faster than standard 3G. So far it’s available in the UK with T-Mobile, Vodafone and, imminently, 3 and no doubt it will join other UK operators’ ranges too. There’s a full internet browser as well as WAP access on board, and there’s a tiny VGA camera on the front for video calling The VGA camera isn’t the main picture-taking tool of course. There’s a 2-megapixel version on the back with 4x digital zoom and a proper flash, accessed by a dedicated shutter button on the side. None of Nokia’s fancy Carl Zeiss lens partnership here, but it’s perfectly good for snaps, which generally came out sharp and clear with very little effort.

The options include a panorama mode which allows you to create wide angle views. You press and hold the shutter button, then move the camera to the left or right and it continues to add images to the original to create a panoramic image. It’s clever, if a little clunky in practice, and while it wouldn’t pass muster as a useful function for photographers, it is good fun.

The music player is solid without offering anything to make it stand out. It plays all the main audio formats, including MP3, WMA and eAAC Plus and the menu is easy to read and intuitive. There’s a very basic five-option equaliser as well as bass boost and stereo widening options, plus a very weird reverb option, which offers a choice of echoey venues for your listening, including ‘Alley’, ‘Bathroom’, and ‘Underwater’ (??!!).

Other handy features include document readers in Quickoffice, so you can view Word, PowerPoint and Excel docs, as well as a PDF reader. It also comes with three games – Marble, City Bloxx (both fairly ingenious Tetris derivatives in different ways) and gambling tutorial Highroller, though you can of course add more Java games.
